Job Summary
Reporting to the Marketing/Community/Sales Director, this part-time position assists in all aspects of membership for the organization including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Assists in the development of plans and implementation of new procedures and methods to achieve membership growth and retention goals.

This is a part-time position; various hours/days (flexible to switch shifts when needed).

Wage: $11.40/hour

Essential Functions:

  • Train, motivate and retains a committed team passionate about the YMCA’s mission and service to members.
  • Completes all job related, supervisory and other training as required.
  • Greeting all guests as they enter the facility and adhere to sign-in/out, guest, visitor, monitoring youth in the facility and other relevant policies and procedures. Report any suspicious behaviour and violations of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
  • Train, mentor, motivate and develop staff to create a sales-oriented team that is focused on the delivery of exceptional customer service
  • Implements membership strategies that support the recruitment of new members and retention of existing members. Creates a member-focused culture and models’ relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Participates in achieving monthly sales goals.
  • Reviews and updates desk procedures and communicates changes to staff.
  • Participates in membership events at the YMCA and represents the YMCA at community events to promote the YMCA.
  • Participates in annual Strong Kids campaign.
  • Participates in staff meetings and/or related meetings.
  • Motivates and energizes the Membership Staff to be Cause-driven Leaders. Leads by example. Co-facilitate training including but not limited to sales and customer service.

Full Time Early Childhood Educator
The YMCA Child Development Centre - Downtown location

Seeking a professional, mature, energetic, responsible, and committed person to join our team in a full time Educator position. This location provides care for children aged 18 months to 6 years. Successful candidates will enjoy a full family membership to the YMCA Fit Centre including all registered classes, as well as a comprehensive benefits package after three-month probationary period.

CANDIDATES MUST BE ABLE TO FACILITATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT.

  • Planning developmentally appropriate and stimulating activities in a play-based environment
  • Participating in physical activities

Nature & Scope:

The YMCA of Saskatoon provides a variety of health, fitness, recreation, and community programs to more than 2,500 members that represent the diversity of Saskatoon and its communities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision for swimmers while on active guard duty.
  • Teach swimming lessons while providing a safe and fun environment
  • Ensure the safety of all pool users in all areas of the YMCA. This includes all areas accessible to the public and restricted areas.
  • Greet and welcome all members, volunteers and staff who enter the pool area.
  • Check all rescue equipment to ensure it is in good condition for the upcoming shift.
  • Check the deck, pool, and equipment room before and after each shift to ensure it is kept neat and clear of obstacles. Note: any equipment in need of repair should be reported.
  • Be knowledgeable of YMCA programs, activities, and pricing.
  • Actively work towards the prevention of accidents and injuries.
  • Render assistance immediately when accidents occur.
  • Educate and instruct the public on pool and water safety at all times.
  • Practice good public relations; be accessible, polite, and helpful.
  • Be punctual and wear appropriate attire for work (staff uniform).
  • Attend in-service training and staff training.
  • Commit themselves to maintain and further develop their qualifications.
  • Keep all records up to date, legible, and accurate.
  • Carry out water tests when assigned.
  • Get along with other staff members and use a professional approach to dealing with conflicts.
  • Wear any safety equipment required for janitorial or maintenance tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Have a current YMCA Swimming Instructor award, SFL/LSI, or WSI
  • Have a current NLS or Red Cross Lifeguarding Award.
  • Have a current Standard First Aid and CPR-C with AED award (Red Cross, St. John’s Ambulance, or AEC);
  • Have lots of energy and be enthusiastic

Hours offered:

  • Various daytime and weekend shifts.
  • Approximately 8-15  hours/week
  • Shifts beginning in June, 2019
