Remember Summer Camp? Let’s Help Kids Make Those Memories Again!
Do you remember blackstrap summer camp? The warm sun on your back, a sparkling lake nearby, and fun activities like swimming, canoeing, or learning to find your way through nature? Maybe you spent time at a cabin with your brothers, sisters, or cousins. Those were happy times!
For many of us, those outdoor moments helped us connect with nature, try new things, and feel brave. Now, in 2025, the YMCA of Saskatoon wants to give those same memories to a new group of kids through our Blackstrap Summer Camp — and we need your help!
What Is Blackstrap Summer Camp?
For over 40 years, Blackstrap Summer Camp has been a fun place for kids in Saskatoon. Campers do awesome activities like:
Kayaking
Archery
Rock climbing
Canoeing
Swimming
Outdoor games
Kids are picked up and dropped off daily at the downtown YMCA or four other spots in the city — making it easy for families!
Why We Need Your Help
The camp has been around for a long time, and now it needs some big updates:
The main building’s roof needs to be fixed so it doesn’t leak in the rain.
The bathrooms and changerooms need repairs.
We need more shaded areas to keep kids cool and safe from the sun.
The camp doesn’t have power or clean drinking water — we want to add both.
With your support, we want to raise $110,000 to make these changes this spring. Your donation will help keep Blackstrap Camp running safely for many more years.
Why Blackstrap Summer Camp Matters
Blackstrap Summer Camp is more than just fun — it’s a place where kids grow. They build confidence, try new things, and learn important YMCA values like:
Honesty
Acceptance
Fairness
Respect
Caring
Responsibility
Because of donors like you, kids can have life-changing experiences. They laugh, make friends, and hear those powerful words: “I believe in you.”
