JOB DESCRIPTION
ROLE DEFINITION:
The BASC Coordinator is a leader who focuses on the planning and operational requirements for the YMCA BASC programs and school out day camps. Reporting to Before and After School Program Director, he/she is required to have expertise and skills in recreational leadership, to provide a quality program following the YMCA values, regulations and policies. The YMCA BASC Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the BASC and day camp programs including on-site and outdoor camps around the Saskatoon Region.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma in Recreational Leadership, Child Studies or related field preferred.
- Related work experience in Day or residential camping
- Experience supervising staff and volunteers
- Experience working with children with special needs, unique considerations or behavioural challenges an asset
- Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills
- Proven knowledge of and experience facilitating high-quality recreational programs
- Strong relationship building skills
- Demonstrated ability to coach and motivate others
- Current standard first aid and CPR-(C) certification
- Current Clear Criminal Records Check with Venerable Sector Search (within 1 year)
- Class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between BASC programs and campsites
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program planning:
- To support the planning, implementation and delivery of Children and Youth Day Camp programs during the year throughout the Saskatoon region
- Responsible for quality program delivery in all BASC sites (including Martensville and Warman programs).
- Work as part of the BASC- Day camp leadership team to develop, manage and lead the BASC and Camp Staff to deliver excellent programs throughout the Saskatoon Region
- Support BASC and Camp planning, communication, promotions and marketing initiatives
- Exercise strong decision-making and judgement on a continual basis when working through situations that arise.
Staff Relations:
- Assist with the recruitment, training, coaching, development and discipline of BASC and camp staff and volunteers
- Oversees schedules to reflect the needs of the children enrolled in the programs
- Work with the Director of BASC programs to implement strategies and systems to minimize risk to children and staff and increase parent, staff and participant satisfaction
- Work with the BASC and camp leadership team to take action on poor staff performance and implement performance reviews
- Provide staff with encouragement and recognition
- Arranges professional development for staff members
- Support Supervisors in assessing conflict situations and exercise good judgment in recommending solutions.
- Role model excellent customer services
Administration:
- Exercise strong decision-making and judgement on a continual basis when working through situations that arise.
- Support with the training and Membership Staff on BASC and Camp products and programs and the implementation of BASC and Camp Registration.

Communication with families and partners:
- Develop and foster relationships and collaboration with a variety of community partners
- Support BASC and camp outcomes and the implementation of feedback tools with participants, staff and parents
- Establish relationships with families and ensure timely communication regarding parent concerns and questions
